    The Special Secretariat of Digital Planning (renamed from the former Special Secretariat for the Information Society), of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was formed on December 2000 (Official Gazette 1502/8.12.2000). The Special Secretariat’s main task is to plan, supervise and manage the OP “IS” in the context of the 3rd CSF. The Special Managing Authority of the “Information Society” Program belongs to the Special Secretariat for for Digital Planning.

    The Special Secretariat’s objectives include inter alia the formation of actions and elaboration of proposals for all issues related to the individual strategy of the country and for the promotion of information technology and digital technologies to all sectors of the country’s economic and financial activity.

    The Special Secretariat for Digital Planning plays a predominant role in the implementation of the “IS” O.P since it represents Greece at the international fora on the Information Society (e-Europe Advisory Group, World Summit for Information Society etc.), it coordinates the IT Committee and follows the European and International policies concerning IS.

    Furthermore, the Special Secretariat plays a crucial role in the shaping of the national policy for the development of IT. The Digital Planning Secretary Special, is the coordinator of the IT Committee, which is the highest institutional body responsible for the shaping of the policy for the application of new technologies in the economy and in the public administration.
