Financial Crisis Sends Croatian Hardcopy Peripherals Market Plummeting, Says IDC | About IDC | IDC CEMA

In 2011, the Croatian hardcopy peripheral market declined 24.5% year on year in volume and 7.5% in value. Total shipments reached 124,264 units worth $33.95 million. When measured in local currency, the value of the HCP market dropped 10.1% year on year. The financial crisis was the main reason for the contraction, with economic deterioration largely to blame for slack demand in both the home and business sectors. Due to a recessionary economic environment, IDC expects the HCP market in Croatia to stagnate in 2012 but to grow from 2013 onward.

"High unemployment and economic uncertainty had a direct impact on spending, especially with regard to the inkjet market, which declined the most in 2011, while illiquidity, budgetary constraints, and a lack of project deliveries negatively influenced the laser market," says Senior Research Analyst Nikolina Jurisic, IDC Adriatics. "However, it should be noted that the drop was occurred from a relatively high base in 2010."

Sales of all technologies except mobile phones and hardcopy peripherals increased in 2011 compared to 2010, with IT services growing the fastest. PCs recorded below-market-average growth, but dynamics varied by form factor: While desktop PC sales decreased, notebook sales surged, and tablet shipments skyrocketed, albeit from a low base. Networking equipment sales rose at the overall IT market average.

In 2011, the inkjet market declined 33.8% in volume year on year to 69,118 units, while the overall laser market declined 9.3% to total 53,713 units.
